Individually, we were to produce a personal interpretation of the site in the form of sketches.
In group of two, we begin with a volume in the form of a solid cube 3 x 3 x 3 meter
By selecting a character, we were to design a Bird Watch Tower at Fraser’s Hill for the purpose of bird watching/contemplation/simply just to enjoy the view.
It shall include the activities of resting, meditation, observation, viewing etc. in which furniture and equipment must fit and be incorporated with the design. This structure should correspond to the site that you have chosen. Adequate access, circulation and fenestration are mandatory.
Project 2b : Bird Watching Tower

This are the 5 individual sketches, with conceptual model I produce. We were to get inspiration from the photos we took from the site, then produce 5 sketches that could show our inspiration out. Later transform the 2D drawings into 3D concpetual models.
I enjoy doing this assignment, because it teaches me a new way of illustrating my feeling and later transfer it into my design :)
In this series of sketches i produce, i used one theme which is "HORIZONTAL & VERTICAL".

From the photo i took, there is a bird hidden within the trees, i used different line weight of lines to show camouflage of the bird in the nature

there are vertical and horizontal element in the photo i took, the illusion i drew shows a feeling of going in to discover

From the photo i took, the trees that are near me, have darker density while the background is lighter and smaller, i used different line wieight and the closeness of the lines to illustrated the photo out

water waves goes from left to right, therefore horizontal lines are used

trees are vertical elements found in the forest, therefore i used vertical lines to illustrate the shadow of the trees

With a group of two, we include our conceptual models into our bird watching tower's design.
Our client is Malaysia famous architects WHBC (Wen Hsia and BC Ang).
They are a couple of architects who works together and produce a series of building which much inspiring.
We choose to use anyaman as the concept design of the bird watching tower because it is Malaysia's traditional element.
Other than that, WHBC's design has a sense of humour within it (exp: they created dog hotel for dogs etc.) Their design are funny when people first look at it, but there are meaning behind it. Therefore we decided to create a building that looks like a bird house but actually there are people living on it. Its' like bird watching ptople, instead of people watching bird.
We even named our building "HOME TWEET HOME" in order for the architect to feel at home, in the same time having the feeling of being in a bird house.

loooks like a typical bird house

basically how it looks like if it is placed on a tree

we were trying to create a space which has a few spaces

one of our design concept is to blend the traditional element into the building

by squeezing a piece of anyaman together, we manage to form a circular shape space, which has a hole, making it looks like a bird house and there are space at the side, allowing people to walk in and out

how it looks like on the site

even the floor of this building is also made out of anyaman in order to let them feel traditional in and out

there are three planes inside, each different height forming three spaces one for Wen Hsia, One for BC ANG and the last one is the space where they meet
