Building Construction 1
The module is the first part of building construction modules. It intends to develop the understanding of the
principles and practices of construction technology in relation to site, plants, soil mechanics, building envelope, and building components “ground”, basement and foundation, “on ground”; floor and staircase, beam and column, wall and opening and “above ground”, roof and ceiling. In order to achieve the above students will undergo a series of continuous assessments, discussions, presentation and site visit.
Project 1: Documentation and Analysis
The aim of this project is to expose and introduce students to various construction elements. It also
intends to enhance the understanding of principles of construction, sequence of construction activities,
importance of basic detailing, construction joints and material application through real life projects.
It also creates an opportunity to study the relationship between site and construction method.
Project 2: Integrated Construction Solution.
This project is a continuation of the first project-an integrated project where it involves construction detailing solution for final project in design studio.
This project is designed to allow the demonstration of knowledge and understanding of construction, application from prior project and emphasis the exercise of producing construction drawing and detail manually.
Project 1: Documentation & Analysis
In this group assignment, group of 8. We were to go to a site, and do site analysis about the construction parts of a building(exp: roof, foundation, stairs, wall and slab, column and beams etc).
We went to two different sites to do research, the first one is a few rows of stage 3 shoplots in Shah Alam, the second one is 80 plus stage 1, 2, 3 houses in Bukit Beruntung.
We separate ourself, each with a subtitle and started to do our research.
I was in charge of the wall & slab section, and there are a few differences between the two different sites we went. The wall of both sites uses different material, one red clay bricks the other one uses cement sand bricks.
Lastly, we produced a series of analysis. This assignment gave me a chance to have better experience towards the site, and i really enjoy the site visitng process.
Project 2: Integrated Construction Solution
This assignment is a continuation of our studio final assignment, we were to produce a series of construction solution for the building we designed.
From this assignment, I tend to control my design not to go too wild because it need to be buildable.
A lot of research are done and I have a better understanding on a localized material(bamboo).
