Project 1 : Famous People, Familiar Faces
To investigate and to explore how spaces are created from the making of architectural elements: architectonics.-solid, planes, lines and frames.
Upon completion of the project student should be able to achieve a level of understanding on the works assigned and will be able to apply the idea and concept to their project later.
The idea of using pure and diagrammatic models to express the architectural idea would also be in cooperated
into this assignment.

This is a group assignment, group of 5. With the help of Chan Boon Haw, Pua Kai Jing, Lee Chaer Shean and Ong Huey Fen we did a research on Ludwig Mies van de Rohe. Through this assignment we were to understand more about Mies's design concept and create a model which is related with Mies's design.
At the begining of this assignment, we created a 5 min short video about one of Mies famous building " Farnsworth House". Through this assignment, I understand more about Mies's design and I love the way how he used "simpliciity" in his design. Simple but very detail.

The lower plane is a public space, the exterior of upper plane is semi public while the interior is semi private. The toilet and bathroom is covered with walls, showing a public space

Other than horizontal element, Farnsworth house is held using 8 vertical I beams

Mies created a skin and bone building "steel and glass"

From the tiles, windows and doors. We can see that Farnsworth house is using the repetition element.

Farnsworth House shows a increasing in proportion

Showing the openness of Farnsworth House

The interior of Farnsworth and the lower plane are Axis and symmetry

Showing the horizontal element in farnsworth house Farnsworth house looks like floating planes from far There is a shifting element, The lower plane is a shift of the upper interior plane

This shows how a person circulate in Farnsworth house
This is the short video about our research on Mies's Farnsworth House.
