Site Analysis and Concept Development

Site: Lembah Bujang, Kedah

A study visit was made in Kedah, Malaysia. The village we went to for a site visit was Lembah Bujang, a historical site full of myths and archeological Candis. A site analysis is carried out to analyze the site contexts and collecting data regarding the island. The data collected is required to be compiled in to a powerpoint for reference of upcoming project - visitor interpretive centre.

Students were brought around the site to visit some of the spots where the candi were originated from. We were given the site at the current Bujang Valley Museum and we will have to remove the current museum and place a new visitor interpretive centre there.

Continued from the site analysis, the students has to develope their designs based on their individual interpretation towards the island. A series of sketches and abstractions diagrams are produced to aid the transformation of idea into concept.

Through the site visit as a visitor, I realize that eveyrhing, the culture, the history, the social and every other aspect in Lembah Bujang are there because of one thing. "Mount Jerai" , if it was not for mount jerai, there will be no civilization, no religion, no people, no social and today no history. Therefore Mount Jerai carries an important part in the civilization of Lembah Bujang. On the other hand, I see treasure, sunken treasure which are hidden underground quietly and waiting to be found. Both Moun Jerai (Dawn) and Treasure (Sunken) given me a feeling, PULSE.

Pulse is the word I feel from Lembah Bujang, I feel that there i still pulse in it. Last time, Lembah Bujang was such a glory place, peple come from every where to here for trading. Every one speaking 'lingua fracua' to communicate, going to candi for blessing. But today, when we talk about Lembah Bujang how many people remember it?
